Chapter Thirteen–Rachel

The silence of my apartment was a stark contrast to the tumultuous events we'd endured at Rosegate. I stepped inside, locked the door and immediately sent the Stuarts a text.

I am home safe. Night, y’all.

At Rosegate Manor, every shadow seemed alive, every whisper a harbinger of unseen dangers. Here, in my apartment, the stillness was unnerving, as if the quiet was a prelude to a storm yet to come.

Sleep was an impossibility; my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, each more unsettling than the last. In a futile attempt to distract myself, to find some semblance of the ordinary, I wandered into the kitchen.

Well, I am pretty hungry and there is no money for takeout in the budget currently.

Cooking, an activity that usually offered me solace but I wasn’t good at, now felt like an empty gesture. I moved through the motions—chopping, stirring, sautéing—without truly seeing what I was doing. The result was a meal that could only generously be called unappetizing.

I had no idea what to call this unappealing plate of food. I stared at it, its colors dull under the harsh light of my kitchen. My appetite had vanished, dissolved by the weight of the night’s revelations and the cold fear that clung to my skin like a second layer.

With a sigh, I pushed the plate away and opened my laptop. I’ll just make some eggs later. Can’t go wrong with eggs, right?

The screen's glow was a beacon in the dim room, a portal to the knowledge I sought. The Brown triplets—Darren, Davis, and Danny—their tragic fates were pieces of a puzzle we were desperately trying to solve.

Armed with determination and a need for answers, I began my search, delving into the digital archives for any clue that might shed light on their deaths.

The internet, vast and unending, was both a blessing and a curse.

Information on the triplets was scarce, buried beneath years of history and the detritus of countless other stories. But I was relentless, fueled by a conviction that understanding their past was key to unraveling the mystery of Rosegate Manor. My fingers flew across the keyboard, typing queries, following leads, opening tab after tab in a quest for the truth.

Hours slipped by unnoticed. The world outside my apartment seemed to recede, leaving me adrift in a sea of history and speculation. It was in this state of focused isolation that I stumbled upon a lead, a thread that promised to guide me through the labyrinth of the past.

With each click, each document, and article that materialized on my screen, I could feel myself drawing closer to the heart of the mystery. Once I found what I was looking for, I could do nothing but read the article again and again.

The Brown triplets, their lives and untimely deaths, were more than just footnotes in the haunted history of Rosegate; they were central to understanding the darkness that now enveloped the manor.

With my barely touched meal forgotten, I delved deeper into my research.

My attention remained fixed on the glow of my laptop screen.
